Mas Doix Winery, Tarragona

Mas Doix Winery, Tarragona

In 1998, the Doix and Llagostera families created the Mas Doix winery in Poboleda. A project deeply rooted in family winemaking tradition, spanning five generations. Juan Extrems Doix wrote the first chapter of this history around wine production back in 1850. His efforts were recognized with a gold medal from the Universal Exhibition in Barcelona (1888) and a silver medal from the Universal Exhibition in Paris (1878).

A visit to Mas Doix is a journey into a century-old story filled with ancestral knowledge. It’s an opportunity to explore the terroir of Priorat and, of course, to taste the wines they craft. The uniqueness of their wines originates in the vineyards, with a commitment to letting each vineyard express its character by first understanding it thoroughly and then enhancing its virtues.

Currently, in their eleven hectares, they cultivate old red varieties like garnacha and cariñena (with vines of 100 and 80 years respectively), syrah, merlot, and cabernet sauvignon.

For Mas Doix, one of the most important lessons is that all this work would be meaningless without a strong commitment to preserving the land and biodiversity. That’s why they’ve been practicing organic agriculture since 2016 and have embraced biodynamics and permaculture.
