Parc Samà, a vintage paradise in Cambrils

A place full of history, with a great variety of flora and fauna, to explore the colonial era.

A short distance from Cambrils is an exceptional place where visitors can enjoy nature and the history of this area, Parc Samà. Salvador Samà, who was Marquis of Marianao, Marquis of Vilanova and Grandee of Spain, promoted the construction of this small paradise at the end of the 19th century. With the intention of creating a garden that could take any visitor to the opulence of colonial Cuba, the park was designed by collecting species of the flora and fauna of Central America.

An architectural jewel

The central building of Parc Samà is a stately home with a grand presence, which reflects the Modernista style of the period in all its splendour. Josep de Fontserè i Mestres was the architect of this construction, with the collaboration of Antoni Gaudí himself. Gaudí had not yet achieved fame when he collaborated on this project, but the building contains the works carried out by the brilliant architect with wrought iron, ceramics, wood and glass, techniques that would later define his most famous works.

It is a space that allows visitors to discover the way of life of 19th century bourgeois families. It is also a corner full of history, since apart from being a tribute to the colonial era, during the Spanish Civil War, Parc Samà housed a Military Instruction Centre and a field hospital. The walls of this magnificent modernist building are impregnated not only with the memory of the Samà family, but also with hundreds of stories of soldiers who passed through this emblematic point of the territory.

For all audiences

A few years ago, the owners of this exceptional site decided to restore the building, recover the grandeur of the garden and turn the Samà Park into a place of reference for visitors to the area. During the renovation, special care was taken to recover the Marianao Aviary and to adapt this space to show the different species of exotic birds that were historically exhibited in the enclosure, always guaranteeing the welfare of the animals.

It is an attraction prepared for all audiences, ideal for both children and adults, as it offers a wide variety of stimuli. The fourteen hectares of Parc Samà can be visited all year round, offering the public a unique experience of proximity to history and nature, with hundreds of species of flora and fauna brought together to delight visitors.

The site is also available to host all kinds of events, especially cultural ones, although it can also be rented for private parties. Tickets, which cost 12 euros for adults and 10 euros for children under 16 and the over 65s, can be purchased through the park’s website.
