Cellers de Scala Dei, Tarragona

Cellers de Scala Dei, Tarragona

Cellers de Scala Dei is the living history of wine in Priorat. A wine that even today is aged in the ancient cellar from the 17th century. Strolling through the corners of this winery is like stepping into a time machine to an era when everything moved at a slower, more leisurely pace, a time when they knew very well how to do things.

It is the oldest winery in Priorat, with its origins in the lands surrounding the Scala Dei monastery, where the Carthusian monks have been making wine since the year 1263. To this day, the same spirit of traditional handcrafted work adapted to new techniques is preserved.

Cellers de Scala is located at the foot of the Montsant mountain range, a protected natural park, offering a natural and historical setting. Approximately 70 hectares of vineyards are cultivated there, spread across 41 estates, of which 70% are planted with the garnacha variety. Many of the vineyards are planted at high altitudes, with climatic conditions that make Escaladei a privileged location for growing the garnacha variety.

All the vineyards are cultivated using organic and traditional methods, without herbicides or pesticides. They do not use insecticides to control pests, and all treatments applied to the vineyards are natural and ecological.
