Mas Igneus Winery, Tarragona
The origins of Mas Igneus date back to 1997 in Poboleda. At that time, the first project to produce organic wine in Priorat was initiated. A few years later, in 2004, a new winery was established in Gratallops under the guidance of architect Alfons Soldevila i Barbosa. Finally, 16 years later, in 2020, the Igneus winery was acquired by Ornella Stocchi.
Mas Igneus is located in Gratallops, right in the heart of the Priorat region. All of their vineyards are certified organic by the CCPAE. They primarily work with the Garnacha tinta and Cariñena varieties, although they also cultivate Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Additionally, they grow Garnacha blanca for the production of their white wines.
Currently, their estates include Costers de l’Ermita in Gratallops, where their winery is situated; La Finca Comellars in Poboleda; El Maset del Boixó, which houses one of their most precious treasures with vines over 100 years old; and Finca La Salanca in Torroja del Priorat. In total, they have about 25 hectares of vineyards that give life to the wines of Mas Igneus.
Walking through their vineyards, you’ll learn about organic grape cultivation, the grape varieties they grow, the type of soil, the local climate, and why their wines are so special.
